Brief History of Warenna Santa Stud

Our family has had a long involvement with the livestock industry.  Mainly with backgrounding.  In 1987 we purchased a line of Santa cows and calves off Petter Fox at Marrett and little did we know, this was going to be the start of our involvement with the Santa Gertrudis Breed.  In 1988 we puchased another line of 2x cows PTIC from Pinaroo.  Then in 1989 we registered as Warenna, Stud No. 1542.  Also in the same year we purchased our foundation sire Pinaroo Dynasty PS by Cumberland Winrock.  In 1990 we attended the female sale in Oakey and purchased (9x9) our first S females to be included in our rapidly growing breeder herd.  In the next few years our breeder numbers increased but with the inclusion of hereford and angus cows.  The progeny from these females were always sold at the Blue Ribbon Weaner Sales at Goondiwindi.  In 1993 we purchased Pinaroo Hank for $5,750 by Yarrawonga Yorkist.  Hank was the top priced bull at Goondiwindi for the Santa Gertrudis Sale that year.

The next few years saw the seasons deteriorate and the selling off of the hereford and angus cows while consolidating our Santa females.  In 1996 we purchased the top price Omeo bull at Goondiwindi.  We purchased Imran for $3,800.  Omeo Imran was a poll scurred bul by Gyranda Shogun, he displayed a good sheath and tremendous carcass qualities.

After rebuilding our breeder numbers again we were hit with another dry spell in 1999 and 2000 but hard decisions had to be made and we sold all our cows except for a handful of our best.  Then another phase of rebuilding our herd again started by adding selected females at the Ibrox Park and Scotlea dispersals.

Then in 2005 Barry and Gail Parish (my parents) purchased "Tully Roan" at Pittsworth to semi retire and they took with them our small number of stud cows.  Also in 2005 we purchased a quality line of PTIC cows from Santalands who were in calf to Waco Opportunist P.

In 2006 we privately purchased Auburn Jaguar for $6,000 by Nungaroi Jaguar.

In 2007 we hired Yarrawonga Repco for a season from the Valleyview Stud and joined him over a few selected females.

The next sire that we used was Warenna Bouncer (by Auburn Jaguar) who has his first crop of calves on the ground at the moment and are looking very impressive.

In 2009 for the first time, we used AI.  We purchased the straws from Bremervale Stud from the $60,000 Rosevale Ambassador (P).  The cows were inseminated by Elizabeth Benstead who achieved an excellent result for us.  We are now eagerly awaiting the results this coming Spring.
